Kopin Corporation (NASDAQ: KOPN), a leading provider of application-specific optical systems and high performance microdisplays for defense, training and simulation, enterprise and industrial, consumer and medical products, today introduced its next-generation application specific drive board, “R15,” for Kopin’s widely used SXGA FLCoS microdisplay. The SXGA-R15 product is designed for use inside 3D AOI (“3-Dimensional Automated Optical Inspection”) machines. The R15 features a smaller, streamlined form factor and new software interface at a lower cost compared to similar products on the market.

According to Zion Market Research, the 3D AOI systems market is projected to grow from $700 million a few years ago to $3 billion by 2030. The use of 3D AOI systems continues to grow in advanced electronics manufacturing settings due to their ability to quickly and accurately detect defects that human inspection might miss. This leads to improved quality and significant savings in both time and cost. Kopin believes that the demand for high-quality manufacturing of intricate circuit boards and other similar precision electronic and mechanical products will keep rising.

Kopin has decades of experience developing optical solutions tailored to meet the needs of the 3D AOI market, which continues to be a significant industrial market for the company. We believe the new SXGA-R15 product offering positions Kopin well to take advantage of the expected market growth; and we are already seeing significant interest from potential customers in Asia.

“Kopin’s passion for innovation continuously fuels the design and creation of superior products that appeal to many customers and end users,” said Greg Truman, Vice President of Business Development for Europe and Asia. “The engineering team employed a novel architecture and approach to develop a product with reduced size of 25% compared to existing available product, complexity and cost. The SXGA-R15’s compact design and affordability are crucial selling points, broadening its potential applications, customer base, and anticipated order acquisition.”
