Etiometry, the pioneer and leader in AI-based clinical decision-support software for high-acuity units, continues to transform ICU care through its Clinical Pathway Automation, which enables care teams to standardize workflows in line with their hospital guidelines and thereby enhance patient outcomes and drive cost savings. In the third quarter of 2024, Etiometry accelerated deployment of Clinical Pathway Automation with pathways now present in all ICU segments (e.g., adult, cardiac, neuro, pediatric) – within top U.S. medical centers. Etiometry has plans to launch more pathways by the end of 2024 to address the growing demand and each unit type’s unique requirements.

“Reducing care variability has emerged as a key strategy for health systems to improve patient outcomes and resource efficiency – especially in high-acuity, high-stakes units,” said Shane Cooke, Etiometry CEO. “Etiometry tackles the complexities of standardizing care, helping hospitals maintain evidence-based protocols that reduce variation while at the same time empowering the care teams to make informed decisions using aggregated and visualized data on one screen.”

Clinical data show impressive results from Etiometry platform use, including a 22% reduction in time on mechanical ventilation1 and an 18% reduction in vasoactive infusion time2. These outcomes were driven by workflow automation that supports efficient escalation and safe de-escalation decisions made by the clinical team. The result is to help patients recover faster and reduce their exposure to live-saving, yet invasive treatments.

Since their introduction in 2021, Etiometry’s automated clinical pathways have continuously expanded in scope, including automated quality reporting, which launched last year. The deployed pathways, powered by Etiometry’s FDA-cleared risk algorithms, now include:

  • ERT/SBT (Extubation Readiness Test / Spontaneous Breathing Trial)
  • Vasoactive medication weaning
  • Neuro-protective measures
  • AKI (Acute Kidney Injury)
  • Mechanical ventilation management
  • Track and trigger for Resuscitation action plan
  • GDT (Goal Directed Therapy)
  • Norwood post operative management
  • IVCO2 (Inadequate Ventilation of Carbon Dioxide) escalation of care
  • Extubation guidelines pathway
  • Fast track extubation pathway

Looking ahead, Etiometry plans to introduce new pathways for ARDS (Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome), ventilator weaning, lung protective ventilation and cardiogenic shock, addressing growing demand for additional automated care pathways.

With its proven impact on ICU care, Etiometry’s Clinical Pathway Automation is setting a new benchmark for the future of critical care, enabling hospitals to deliver safer, more efficient, and consistently high-quality patient care.
