“At just 22, Caitlin Clark is already a force of nature whose impact cannot be overstated,” said Thomas Neumann, Athlon Sports Editor in Chief. “Our magazine explores her influence on and off the court during her basketball journey and celebrates her trailblazing rookie season.”
In the last 12 months, Clark finished a record-setting collegiate career at the University of Iowa and was named Rookie of the Year in her WNBA debut season.
Notable quotes from exclusive stories the magazine:
“I don’t think any one of us were ready for what that was going to be like.” – Indiana Fever coach Christie Sides, on the avalanche of media and fan interest in her team after the addition of Clark.
“Caitlin has demonstrated that she’s a great ambassador for the game, really, on all counts. She does a great job with the media — both when things are going well and when things are tough. She takes accountability in losses and in wins. She spreads the credit out to her teammates. She’s doing great things.” – Indiana Pacers coach Rick Carlisle.
From the “A Season to Remember” article by Scott Agness:
Following the NCAA national title game, Clark went straight from the plane in Iowa City to her home in Des Moines, excited for a home-cooked meal from her mom. She drove back to Iowa City the next day for a team celebration, then flew to L.A. and then to New York to appear on “Saturday Night Live” two days before the draft, providing incredible publicity for the league. And she hadn’t even graduated yet.
“I think the biggest thing is I’m just very lucky to be in this moment, and all these opportunities and these things, they’re once in a lifetime,” said Clark. “When things might get tiring or you have to do stuff, I think the biggest thing is to look at it just as an opportunity. This isn’t something everybody gets to do.”
